The First Few Months

Image
Here he is again just a week or so after coming home. The face is happier! He's smiling. He grew so fast. It seemed like a minute that he was a little cuddly bundle. Then he became a gangly teenager. I love that face! Who couldn't love that face? Those little freckles and sweet little puppy dog eyes.  Max could not bark. He'd just make a hoarse, coughing sound.  We'd play outside and he'd get all excited running around and doing his zoomies, but he just couldn't bark. We'd laugh and he just didn't know what we were laughing at.  I had to teach him how to bark. It was the cutest thing. I'd bark at him and he'd cough at me and his tongue would lull out in a very goofy puppy smile. I swear he figured out real quick that I was teaching him something. We'd work on it every day and within no time, Max learned how to bark. Of course, I was so proud of him and praised him that he was sure he was supposed to bark more! My husband wasn't thrilled

It was going to be an amazing experience, but we’ll get to that.  Here’s Max:  This is his glamour shot at six weeks of age. He’s going to be quite the celebrity!  Honestly, he looks very bored with the whole picture-taking process! But isn’t he adorable? Max joined our family two weeks later!  I guess I should include some background on the decision to add Max to our family.  I love animals.  All animals, cats, dogs, horses, cows. If it has fur and four legs, I love it! I’ve always understood animals better than people and I’m pretty sure animals can sense this because they’ve always been drawn to me, as well. But most of the animals in my life to this point had been family pets. With the exception of two cats and a calf, no animal had ever been just my pet.  We went to pick him up. It was about an hour trip
